away from him. joining me now rolling stone national affairs correspondent tim dickinson and doug thornel democratic strategist, knickerbocker former spokesman for the democratic campaign committee and traveling press secretary for howard dean's 2004 presidential campaign. thank you both for joining us. it was not so much fun watching last night and today, i kind of had the sense that we've read at different points in our lives about the seven stages of grief. i kind of saw the democratic party working through the stages today. tim, let me ask you are they now beginning to deal with reality and figure out how to put these things back together? >> you know, i actually went back and rewatched the debate today. it was sort of less bad than i think people honestly -- maybe you think i'm in denial but i think this actually was not a tragic debate for the president. i thought he came across as sleepy and a step too slow but other than that, you know, he was fine under substance. he didn't have any notable gaffes. we're not t

even stronger today as it moves over jamaica and heads to cuba. doug kammerer has more on how sandy could have an impact on us here. doug? >> it really could have an impact on our weather as we make our way into the weekend and early next week. hurricane sandy with winds of 80 miles an hour, just off the coast of the eastern portions of jamaica right now. really hit that eastern side very, very hard. winds upwards of 80 miles an hour, with stronger gusts. trees down, power outages there. now it's on its way over toward cuba. video a little bit earlier this morning as it was making its way onshore. the incredible surf this storm is producing, we'll see it move up the east coast over the next few days. it will be in cuba, bahamas, florida, carolina also, and portions of the northeast. the potential is there for this to be a very dangerous storm. here it is right there. winds right now 80 miles an hour. moving to the north at 14 miles per hour. on that track, moves very close to miami, just off the coast there. and then right up the coast, staying offshore through most of this time per

, you ain't seen nothing yet. doug, what's coming? >> what's coming is really cool air. i think many areas are going to get down close to the freezing mark during the night tomorrow night. tonight's going to be chilly. what's coming is going to be even colder. out there right now, 60 degrees with plenty of sunshine. winds out of the south at 12 miles an hour. and when you're in the shade, and the sun's going down right now, so there's a lot of shade out there, 20-mile-an-hour winds feel cool. 60 towards la plata. as we move through the night tonight, this is what you can expect, say, in through northwest, silver spring, rosemary hill area. temperatures falling to the 50s, to around 42 when you wake up tomorrow morning, a freeze watch for some. i'll show you who coming up. >>> down to the wire tonight for the nats. >> if they win, they'll play again tomorrow. but lose and their season is done. pat collins is in nats park where fans aren't giving up hope next. pat, how is it going? >> reporter: it's going pretty well, doreen. the feeling here today, much different than yesterday. this

caddell, fox news contributor and former pollster for jimmy carter, and doug schoen, a fox news contributor and former pollster for bill clinton. gentleman, is the race, doug, basically tied? >>doug: i believe so. but there is a "but." that is that the movement has been to governor romney. some of the more left-wing commentators have tried to suggest that there was a blip up for president obama after the debate. according to some of the polls, he won that. but, looking at all the polls, including the state polls, we are seeing the movement to the governor is clear. >>gregg: i am glad you brought up gallup and rasmussen. here is rasmussen, with romney up by to points and look at gallup tracking poll, pat, romney is up, as of 1:00 o'clock this afternoon, romney is up plus seven points. is that gallup poll accurate? or an outliar? >> i think it is an outliar because i have a problem with the seven-day seven day rollings because you are putting in 350 interviews which is margin of error at 15 points and each day you take one out. however, obama is -- i take gallup and rasmussen and

doug fister. almost a local story. call it a semi local story. he is from merced and he grew up adjoints fan. one of his dreams was always to pitch at at & t park. little did he know it would be with the detroit tigers in the world series against his childhood team. >> growing up don't tell anybody i was a giants fan. you know. being able to come to a couple games when i was little it has always been a dream and goal for me. and now it's happening. it's definitely special being able to come be the ballpark and play in a world series is something that you know obviously is a moment that will never be forgotten and it holds a little more special place in my heart i would say. but it doesn't change what we do rob the field. >> it's not going to be much different than the last time. i mean, it's what you work for all year. it's what you work for your whole life. and you know, i'm just thankful to be back. >> reporter: the vibe is really starting to happen already here. less than an hour before the first pitch. and the giants they have an incredible momentum going in the last four ga

team 4 meteorologist doug kammerer said severe weather could be on the way. how soon? >> it's going to be tomorrow, and probably tomorrow night. outside right now, it does not get better than this. most of the forecast has a lot of days like this in it. again, tomorrow could be a different story. we could be seeing severe weather. right now, a very big storm is taking shape in the middle part of the country. 68 degrees currently. winds out of the south at 9 hour. per around the rest of the region, simply gorgeous. temperature of 66 degrees right now in gaithersburg, 68 degrees in washington, and 70 degrees in through the fredericksburg area. once again, very nice conditions. with plenty of sunshine and light winds, this is simply a gorgeous, gorgeous afternoon. there's no rain right now. we're not going to see any rain for probably the next 24 hours. but there is that chance of severe weather during the evening hours tomorrow. we'll talk much more about that storm coming up. but i'll take you in through your morning. fairfax county, burke, great afternoon. looking very good toward f

years of the saforeign policy. >> doug kelly is live with more. >> good morning. focus turned to foreign policy with governor romney delivering a major address at the virginia military institute offering his severest critique yet of the president leading from behind. >> hope is not a strategy. we can't support our friends in the milled east when our words are not backed up by these but spending is cut we have no trade agenda to speak of and it is not one of partnership but of pass civet. >>> speaking in san francisco yesterday president obama touted his decision to pull u.s. troops out of iraq and to pull them out of afghanistan by 2014. >>> governor romney has a different view. he sain a speech today he doubl down on that belief. said ending the war was a mistake. i disagree. bringing our troops home was the right thing to do. every brave american who wears the uniform of this country should know as long as i am commander-in-chief we will sustain the strongest military the world has ever known. >> romney said the root to moral war and potential attacks here at home is a politically pine

at this point especially after -- >> no. >> after doug was suggesting the sequester somehow went away? how do you do that? how do you get these guys to do budget process that they really mean, that anybody believes they mean? >> at the concord coalition the way we view this you have to create a lot of public sentiment for this kind of discipline. you have to make it clear to the public that this is not something we can sit around quietly for and hope for. and yes, you're right, that you have every right to be cynical about my optimistic view and yet i think that, it is hard to do good tax reform. it is time-consuming. it is hard to do entitlement reform. we're not going to want to rush into anything. and yet, we have to create some boundaries because what has been happening, for the past decade, or over a decade, has been that deficit financing is the easiest thing to do. it seems free to people and you think until we hold congress to budget constraints and unless, until the american people hold the congress to the budget constraints that are necessary, we're not going to make progress. so th

meteorologist doug kammerer joins us now with more on our chilly forecast. >> chilly, almost an understatement here. here we are in the middle to early october. very cold numbers. 54 degrees. plenty of clouds, and even shower activity, even around the district. winds out of the northeast at 8 miles per hour now. take a look at the numbers around the rest of the area. 44 in martinsburg. and 52 down towards fredericksburg. temperatures right now 15 to 20 degrees below average. and we're going to be even colder tonight. look at the rain coming across the region. most of this has been on the light side. it's been per per sis tant along the corridor. over the next couple of hours, expect the temperatures to come down and expect more rain to come down, too. my complete forecast in just a few minutes. >>> the next time you ride metro, you might encounter new controversial ads promoting israel. they initially refused to post them but a judge is now giving metro until 5:00 tonight to put them up. here's the reaction from the riders. >> seems pretty zionist. >> reporter: it's only 18 words, but its mess

in the rose garden yet and no one has told him, chris. doug is absolutely right. he's not good on his feet. his last few interviews have been aces a ters. he was terrible with david gregory. when paul ryan sat down with chris wallace, he was hammered on the absence of details in their plans. romney couldn't even handle bret bear from fox. they can't even go to fox when they go on fox nobody blows fox who is a republican except these two guys. so i think it's the prevent defense except he's not sitting on a lead. but he's behind in most of the swing states. he's behind in ohio, wisconsin, iowa, nevada. you know, i'm not sure this is so safe, but it's probably the safest course for him. >> well, i think bret bear is pretty good in that interview. one reason romney might steer clear of sit-down interviews, he's been barraged with questions about senate candidate richard mourdock. take a look. >> governor, do you wish mourdock would pull that ad? >> which way are we going? >> governor, do you disavow mourdock's comments on the rape? >> thank you. >> governor, do you disavow murdoch's comments

, the of the american action forum. doug, good to have you with us. i never heard people be intelligent in their own special ways go conspiracy nut on us when the report came out. give us the direct, simplest explanation how in the world we can see the payrolls rise by 114,000, and the unemployment rate plummet to 7.8%. >> the payroll employment, the 1 # 14,000, is a number that we get by going to firms saying how many people on the payroll? they ask one out of every three workers. it's a big survey of the economy, considered the most reliable. the other number is going to households saying do you have a job? if the answer is no, are you looking for work? if so, you count as unemployed. this month, they asked do you have a job, somehow, the reports came back that we traded 873 # additional job, simply, completely out of line with everything else in the economy, and only evidence of what is effectively a bad poll. they found people not representative of the united states, and it really ought to be dismissed, but that's the real source of the decline in unemployment, and it's unrelated to the 114,000

on foreign policy a topic that has already sparked a lot of fireworks. >> joining us now is doug luzader. >> instead of standing on podiums or walking around one another on stage like the last debate we are going to be sitting at the same desk with one another. they are supposed to talk about foreign policy you know how this goes just about anything could come up. the tone tonight may be some what more subdued than we saw during the last debate when things got pretty heated. the president will no doubt try to question mitt rom niece readiness on the world stage. >> people want to know they have a strong steady hand in the oval office. they don't want someone who is reckless and who has been consistently wrong on foreign policy issues as governor romney has. >> romney may try to hit the president on the u.s. consulate attack on libya with questions about what the white house really knew about the attack in those early days. with the new report over the weekend with possible talks between the u.s. and iran over the nuclear program romney will likely question the president's support over is

of a concern for them. let's debate this doug schoen, former pollster for president clinton. monica crowley, radio talk show host. both are fox news contributors. good morning to you. let me show the poll one more time. 67% say it is troubling the first initial erroneous reports came out of the administration. 26% say not much of a concern. doug, is this an issue in the presidential election? >> absolutely it is a issue. when something is troubling it is not full voting issue. but the bottom line as we go into the vice-presidential debate and two presidential debates coming in the next two weeks, this is a huge concern for the obama white house, make no mistake and they're going to try to keep a troubling concern, troubling not totally political. not have it dominate the election. alisyn, most of all, not have it take over the final days of the campaign in a way that could be calamitous for the election. alisyn: monica, do you agree with doug, when people go into the voting booth, are they thinking about benghazi or thinking about their jobs and their gas tanks? >> obviously jobs and the ec
